Our Events

Chancellor's Dinner setup

Each year new milestones are achieved at UCR and many are marked by special events or ceremonies. The Office of Event Management & Protocol produces the campus' formal academic convocations, recognition events, and building groundbreakings and openings. In addition, the Office of Event Management & Protocol consults with UCR's academic and administrative units and provides guidance to assist them in achieving their event goals and objectives.

Annual Events

New Student Convocation

To mark the beginning of a student's journey as a member of the UCR community, New Student Convocation is held each fall for the entering class. At this formal academic ceremony, leaders in the University community welcome all incoming students into the Highlander family, and reaffirm the core values of the university - free inquiry, intellectual honesty, personal integrity and respect for human dignity.

Homecoming

Homecoming weekend at UCR is the highlight of UCR's fall quarter. Events include: Alumni reunions, bonfire, Scot Fest and the Basketball Game. All are welcome - Go Highlanders!

Hays Press-Enterprise Lecture

The Hays Press-Enterprise Lecture has been presented by The Press-Enterprise and UCR since 1966. The goal of this free public lecture is to bring someone of exceptional achievement in journalism to Riverside to address important topics related to the news media.

Donors & Scholars Recognition

The achievement of a university degree would not be possible for many students if not for financial support provided through undergraduate scholarships and graduate fellowships. The Donors & Scholars Recognition luncheon brings scholarship recipients and their benefactors together and acknowledges the special role that private philanthropy plays in enabling students to achieve their promise of success.

Commencement

The UCR community culminates each academic year at Commencement. This series of formal academic ceremonies celebrates the achievements of UCR's graduating class. Ceremony highlights include the academic procession led by the UCR Pipe Band, student and keynote commencement addresses and the individual recognition of each graduate as they walk across the stage.
